So, a little
bit about who we are, and how we became us.
By Jalik Motar
Back in the eighth grade (2001-2002), one person stealing
his friend's lunchbox was what sparked the flame that eventually became
Forefront Gaming. A friend of mine, David, had gotten into this routine
of stealing my other friend Colin's lunchbox every day. It was all a joke
of course, because Colin would drop his lunchbox off at the table, and
leave to go somewhere for a few minutes. David would always reach over,
grab the lunchbox, and open it to reveal its contents to us. Occasionally,
he would take stuff out of it and hide it somewhere, so that when Colin
came back from wherever he was, there would be something missing from his
lunch. Again, still just a joke.
Over the course of time (a week or two I think), Colin finally
decided that David should just stop stealing his lunch, because although
funny, it was beginning to get a bit old. So, Colin created the 'Grand
Rule'. The Grand Rule stated that David was to no more touch, steal, or
even hint at stealing Colin's lunch. A few days went by, and the lunch
remained untouched by David. But then, David had a clever idea of his own.
The day started as usual; Colin dropped his lunch off at
the table, and then left to go somewhere. Colin came back - and no lunch.
There David sat with a big grin on his face, holding Colin's lunchbox.
Baffled as to why this was the case, and as to why the Grand Rule apparently
held no meaning to David, Colin began to question him. David's response:
The Elite Rule. The Elite Rule stated that all previous terms and conditions
of the Grand Rule held no meaning, and David was once again allowed to
steal Colin's lunch.
We all laughed, but secretly, my friend Brendan and I were
jealous that David and Colin were having so much 'fun' without us. So,
Brendan created his own Rule, the Supreme Rule. I, not really wanting to
create my own Rule quite yet, decided to create a sub-Rule of the Elite
Rule, the Dynamix Rule. Things went well for all of us after that. We split
up the world into areas that we could conquer. Each of us had our own region
of the earth all to ourselves (minus Madagascar, due to *ahem* unavoidable
circumstances).
Then, I decided I was fed up with only being on the level
of janitorial status as part of the Elite Rule. After all, I was the Ruler
of my own sub-Rule wasn't I? Well, it seemed the only way to fix it was
to declare my independence, and create my own Rule, once and for all. I
separated from the Elite Rule, and created my very own Cardinal Rule.
My 'used' Rule (the old Dynamix Rule) was not in use, so
I gave it to my brother, who turned it into the Imperial Rule. David sold
his old Rule (the Elite Rule) to our friend Thomas, due to the massive
debt that he had gotten himself into. David created a New Elite Rule, which
was free of debt, and of course, brand new.
Things just sat for a while, but then something interesting
happened. One day, two years after starting the whole Rules idea, we were
sitting at lunch, discussing David's favorite new PC game, a Massively
Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) called Star Wars Galaxies
- An Empire Divided. One of us began to think it over, and eventually
blurted out, "Wouldn't it be cool if we could make our own MMORPG
like Galaxies?" I don't remember which of us it was that
thought of it, but the idea just stuck. Since then, we have been at work
on making an MMORPG called Frontline: 3110 - The Ruling Wars.
So, naturally needing a name for a company, we originally
went with Frontline Gaming, because it sounded cool, and it was the name
of our game. Through a bit of an unfortunate circumstance, though, that
never worked out. So, then we had a meeting to discuss what possible names
we could have for our company. The decision seemed to favor Forefront Gaming,
due to the meaning of the word 'Forefront'. However, later down the road,
some people in our development team expressed their dislike for the name,
so then we had a meeting to for sure decide that everyone liked and was
willing to accept Gemini Gaming as our actual company name. That didn't
happen, and everyone decided that Forefront Gaming was a good name, so
we stuck with it.
So, that's just a little bit about us, and how we became
Forefront Gaming. I will perhaps elaborate on this in the future,
and have mini-profiles of our development team.
